iPhone OS 4.0 is now official with over 100 new features

1. Multi-tasking

Multi-tasking on the iPhone – well, how about that! It took them 3 years and three (almost four) generations of iPhones to come to that. They know they’re late but Steve Jobs is promising their implementation is the best so far. And multi-tasking won’t slow down or drain the battery.
The way they do it on the front-end is simple. Double tap the hardware key and the task switcher appears as a dock below whatever app is running. Oops, there goes our only shortcut key.
On the back-end things are different. Instead of keeping all apps running in the background, they allow apps that need multi-tasking access to 7 background services. So it’s actually the services that run in the background – not the actual apps.
The background services seem more than enough to cater for the needs of various applications. They include background audio, VoIP, background location, push notifications, newly implemented local notifications, task completion and fast app switching service that takes care of returning apps to you in the way you left them even though they DIDN’T actually run in-between.

VPS MySQL and Apache Optimization

March 20th, 2010 admin No comments
With a considerable number of webmasters switching to Virtual Private Servers (VPS) from shared hosting these days and preferring them over costlier fully dedicated servers, memory and resource optimization has become a burning issue. Most VPS packages being bought these days, have dedicated memory constraints of 128MB to 256MB. Apache and MySQL are known to be the most memory (resource) intensive applications that tend to crash or slow down a low to mid range VPS often. While OpenVZ or Virtuozzo based VPSs can have a burst memory limit in addition to the dedicated RAM to quench occassional high memory needs, Xen based VPSs cannot use more than the stipulated amount of dedicated RAM, adding to the problem.

BioShock 2

March 20th, 2010 admin No comments

When the city of Rapture was first unveiled, it was an underwater dystopia ravaged by civil war and self-destructive genetic manipulation. This strange and unforgettable world was also one of awe and wonder. Set nearly a decade after the events of its precursor, BioShock 2’s Rapture is just as haunting and atmospheric the second time around (and perhaps even more so), but the sunken tomb of Rapture has lost much of the mystery that made it so memorable. Everything seems a bit too familiar, and the story that accompanies your journey is not as impressive or shocking as the original. Despite this, BioShock 2 plays host to several enhancements over the first, including an expanded set of moral dilemmas, improved shooter mechanics, and a surprisingly fun and engaging multiplayer mode. Whether or not you’ve experienced Rapture before, BioShock 2 is an all at once beautiful, disturbing and thought-provoking experience that stays with you after you’ve shut it off.

Heavy Rain Review

March 20th, 2010 admin No comments

The goal of every story is to form some degree of connection with its observer. Most often, this link is fleeting at best, but every now and then, a much deeper bond is formed. This bond is one in which the observer is less of a passive participant and more of an emotionally engaged accomplice. Though many video games (as well as most novels and movies) strive to be the latter, Heavy Rain is one of those few games that can claim to have truly achieved this lofty objective.

God of War III

March 20th, 2010 admin No comments

After slicing a rampaging Minotaur repeatedly with your trusty Blades of Exile, you finally knock the exhausted beast down, leaving it dazed and disoriented from your virtuosic display of hatred-fuelled combat. As the Minotaur writhes on the ground, badly wounded but still not ready to succumb to death’s waiting embrace, you sprint over and take hold of its piercing horns. With muscle-tearing effort, you grapple with the monster, twisting its neck as it desperately tries to break free of your hold. A horrific snap echoes across the room: you have won the fight. His limp body falls pitifully to the ground, forgotten as you run off to your next conquest. God of War III relishes death like few other games, glorifying the downfall of mythical beasts, rock-solid Titans, and not-quite-immortal gods in grotesque and satisfying fashion. The visceral combat and overwhelming sense of scale that have become the hallmarks of this brutal franchise have been pushed further than ever before in God of War III, creating an experience so focused and explosively fun that it’s hard to put down, and even harder to forget.
